I read all 4 chapters again today when you posted chapter 4. It helps me when I start a new story with my continuity issues. They're mine, not yours. Bella is about as tough as a pancake, I think. She hurts, and is afraid, but loves her brother deeply. For him she will fight, and to be fair, she was right about everyone talking about them as if they were not there. The girl has been hurt - badly! Love your work here because it shows Bella as frustrated, Edward as confused, and the women as taken in by Bella's father. That's a lot of emotions to get out simultaniuosly, yet you do it with complete ease. Nice job!

You have lots of questions! LOL ... The woman, was just someone that they were walking behind, they did not know her and was not with her. Bella is 17 at start of story and Peter is 9. We just made up a town, but your suggestions are hilarious. The population is around 3000. more about why Bella and her brother Peter were on the run will be coming as well as info on their parents. I am looking forward oh this!! I grew up in SW Kansas and was the granddaughter of a beef rancher & winter wheat farmer. My grandparents where so very resourceful & hard working.
I will say that you might want to fix the "typo" of the ranch only having 350 acres. That would be tiny - definitely not enough to support all of those animals in any sort of meaningful number. It also would not require 2 ranch hands. Even having really fertile land, access to water, the weather is brutal which would impact output. I remember my grandfather having a little under 1000 acres where he raised winter wheat, hay and beef cattle (no cows). He had no ranch hands and didn't need them/could afford them. He would help and get help from neighbors during harvest or other busy times.
Anyway, I would imagine he has more like 3500 acres (or even 10K is not completely unreasonable) not 350 acres. :)

Part of his ranch is dealing with dairy cattle, and living in Iowa surrounded by farm land it's not unheard of to have a couple of fulltime farm hands if you milk say 50 dairy cows twice a day and you're working fulltime outside of your own property. I know it is not a large amount of land, but it suffices our needs for this fictional story. Mostly when the ranch is spoke of it consists of the ranch's small apple orchard, a couple of horses and the dairy cows. I know how big my Uncles small farm is and I just went with almost double the size. He milked 49 (there was room for 50 but hte last stance on the left was for the bull) he milked 49 head of dairy cattle twice a day 7 dyas a week. There is a LOT of work that goes into milking. So that was the basis of which I used when we talked about size of the ranch. I hope this better explains it, so you underestand why we did not maek the ranch bigger than we did.
