Images from the drowning accident at the beach continue to haunt Lily in the small town of Meadowcreek where she starts eleventh grade. She finds refuge in her next door neighbor, the charming and witty Vincent Blake, who coincidentally is in all of her classes at school. Lily’s mystifying relationship with Vincent starts to head down a tumultuous path by the arrival of new student, Marcus.

As Lily and Vincent’s relationship deepens, questions start to unfold of who Vincent really is. Any hope of lingering happiness becomes threatened by the arrival of Marcus whose attempt to gain Lily’s trust is a façade buried behind his motive to claim her soul and entire being. Vincent’s warnings for Lily to stay away from Marcus become pivotal after she realizes that a story of two angels coming to earth, one to claim a mortal’s soul and the other to save her, isn’t merely a legend but the impending final chapter in Lily’s own life. The dilemma one of the angel’s faces is that he has fallen in love with the mortal.

If Vincent chooses to become mortal and stay with Lily, her fate will ultimately lie with Marcus for she can no longer be protected by Vincent. But if Vincent’s initial purpose to save her is carried out, Lily’s hope of newfound happiness and security that she’s found with Vincent will be lost forever.
