I am not sure how familiar you are with Stephenie Meyers interpretation of the Vampire but it is quite different from the VD version (which is more like the Hollywood depiction of the Vampire). In Twilight, the vampires have cold, marble-like skin, cannot ingest anything but blood, sparkle in the sunlight (as opposed to burning), have red eyes (human blood drinkers) or butterscotch eyes (animal blood drinkers). So, in essence, there are two breeds of the Vampire species that exist in this "universe".
