I have a theory... Bella is not really Em's girlfriend. She is tutoring him and to cover that up they've agreed to say they are a couple. Maybe Em is embarrassed and don't want the kids at school or his dad to know. Maybe she's doing it because she is lonely cause her parents are always gone. He (Em) is very fond of her but not much more. After all she is the opposite of his type. Whatever they were doing in his room, it was NOT having sex. Either he was doing some kind of schoolwork or she was sitting on his back while he did push-ups She's small enough. When I was little (maybe 12) I used to do that for my dad's friend who couldn't afford a gym. he would have me get on his back like he was a horse and do push-ups and I would have to try to stay on. I'm pretty sure I squeaked a bit too, and he grunted, but there was NOTHING sexual about it.

Another theory... He (Em) wants to keep the football groupies away so he and Bella are pretending to be a couple. She obviously likes Edward and feels the "tingle" so something is up. Maybe she agreed so she wouldn't have to be alone so much. I also think Bella & Emmett are very good friends. There is an obvious affection there but I've noticed the Edward has not seen them kiss other than the forehead.
