It had to happen, as Edward has been kind of unhappy with the Bureau, feeling it too restrictive, for his talents, anyway. Being a part of Sam's bunch will suit both him and Bella, I'm thinking. As for the grieving parents of the drowned children, they have closure of a sort and more than regular law enforcement could ever provide. I look forward to the case of the dryads, see you soon!

Now we're getting to why Bella fits in so well with our merry band of supernatural detectives! She has her very own spirit guardian, the dryad Phoebe! I'll wager that meeting took place because of Bella's bump on the head knocking her unconscious for a bit. It must have left her mind in a place that Phoebe could access. This missing children case is going to get involved in things the group can deal with much better than the sheriff can. Too bad they don't cooperate a little better! Police are as territorial as any animal, I guess.

Since you write of the supernatural, I'm guessing the disappearence of a dozen children is tied to the mother and children drowning at the beginning of this chapter. Perhaps a ghostly abduction, or someone acting on the urgings of a spirit. Good to see Edward, Bella, Sam, Angela and Lauren again! Southern sheriffs with big bellies is a stereotype we have all been exposed to, so I had to smile!
