Another wonderful chapter. Carlisle's plan sounds pretty solid and I hope Isabella will accept it. But like Esme said, she doesn't like town and that will require her to go to town more. Guess we will have to wait and see. See ya on the 29th. :)

Poor Bella. I feel so sorry for her. But living on a small family farm is hard. Even in this day and age. My husband and I live on a cattle farm and there is ALWAYS something to do.

I love how determnd lady Cullen is to make bella be more of a lady in society even if she really doesn't want to.
Renee is definitely n her way out, there will be such a heavier burden when this happens.
I am sorry I hadn't noticed the title chapters either, I am usually too eager to read the chapter :-)
great chapter, loved it x

Great story, poor Isabella how worn down she will be in no time. She is doing the work of a full grown woman and man combined and is only 16. How must her hands appear and surely her appearance would already be a little weather-beaten.
Yes I have purchased gooseberries from the fruit & veg shop but as a raw berry I wasn’t impressed.
Thanks for your story

I have heard of gooseberries. In the 90's I think someone used the name in promotion of their catalogue here in the States. It might still be around?

You go Esme! It would take a firm order to get Bella to a dance. And no wonder. Not only does she work nonstop, but the worry and responsibility for everything increases her burden. I have heard of gooseberries, but I do not remember eating them. I wonder if gooseberries are a favorite of Edward's???? I assume he will be at the dance? I am so looking forward to that if he is. And no, sadly, I do not expect Renee to survive. She is saying her goodbyes, tying up loose ends...it is just a matter of time I think. I really enjoyed the chapter.

This glimpse into Isabella's life really showed how hard her day really was and how becoming an adult in her social circles was very different than in Lady Cullen's. At such a young age she has so much resting in her shoulders. In your AN you asked if we thought Renee is going to make it and I don't think so. She (Renee) makes comments like the one in this chapter that indicate she is giving up and knows the end is coming. I think Isabella knows it too. Renee was probably only holding on until Isabella became an adult so that she could keep the farm and would be able to raise little Charles. I love this story and always look forward to the updates. I'm a little confused about when you said the next one would be since you said it will be in 2 days but also that it would be the 19th and it is the 22nd already. Typo I'm guessing but no biggie. I'll just watch that inbox. :)
Date: 21 Sep 2012 3:28 AM Title: September 17th 1843
I just found your story a couple of days ago through your post at Texasbella's FB group and I'm loving it! I can't wait 'till your next update, hope it's soon :)
I can totally understand Bella's thoughts about society, dreams, marriage and love, she has so much to take care of and no time to be silly. I just hope she opens her heart to new things *mainly love and dreams* and is able to see that life can be a little better even against all odds. Young Charles seems like such a great kid, I just hope he and Bella can have their mother for a little bit longer. It would be really sad when the time comes and they lose her. I think it's great that the Cullens are and would be there to help them, I don't have a clear idea of what they can do but some ideas circle around them adopting Bella and young Charles, Bella marring Edward (I think this is going to happens either way but probably really down the road), and my last thought is them helping them with money.
I'm happy that we got to meet Edward, I believe he has reason enough to feel shitty but there is just a point in life when you have to get your shit together and move on, because if not there is always someone else that is going to get hurt, and I fear that all this is going to hurt his relationship with Jasper and his children. I mean Esme can be the best mum ever but they need their dad, to love them and to share their new steps in the world. Besides Charlotte and Henry seem so cute! (I really loved the pics you posted of them)
I hope Esme's plan works and doesn't backfire. Can't wait to read about E&B's first meeting, I'm pretty sure is going to be really unconvencional but will rock their worls.
Wanting to hear soon from you with a new update and hoping that real life is treating you well.
Kisses.R.

So, Edward and Bella both have a lot in common. Both sacrificed on the altar of duty. And we see a little bit the famous Cullen guilt - both by Carlisle and Edward. How sweet that Carlisle adores his Esme. I hope you don't kill him off, it's bad enough that you killed Charlie!
Date: 19 Sep 2012 1:26 AM Title: September 13th 1843
I'm glad Esme doesn't want to take Bella away from her mother. She's very clever in getting what she wants. And of course Edward is going to be an ass, isn't he always? I think he'll be the typical entitled upper-class male of his time.
Date: 19 Sep 2012 1:07 AM Title: September 11th 1843
Esme is just as loving and sweet as always. I think she and Carlisle are unusual for their times, in being so concerned about their tenants. Bella is her usual unselfish and unassuming self. She needs someone like Esme to give her an opportunity to shine, since her own mother is ill and can't help her. I have a feeling Esme is going to get her daughter.

I love the time period of this story - I think it suits all the Twilight personalities very well. I've read my fair share of period romances, and I can't wait to see how you fit Bella, Edward, Esme and Carlisle into the genre. The pictures you post really add to the story.

My inbox ate this chapter. So glad I went back through and discovered it.
I appreciate the candor between Esme and Isabella. It places a firmness in the balance between two people yet allows a tenderness to bleed through.
You can feel a desire to nurture and guide Isabella through these trying times with every gesture and comment Esme gives. Will her gentle nudges be enough or will Esme need to resort to pulling even more strings behind the scene?
Date: 18 Sep 2012 7:40 AM Title: September 17th 1843
So Sarah had been brought up to give her husband anything he desires.
That was they way if you came from wealth, trained to be a wife, mistress of the manor, hostess and compliant in bed. Of course if you were poor you could cut out hostess and add work your fingers to the bone and have multiple children on top of it. The wealthy men usually got a mistress after a couple of boys were born.
Lord and Lady Cullen were obviously lucky enough to feel something for their “good match” but Edward not so lucky or maybe he didn’t care at the time but now feels guilty. Did his parents insist as he was to produce the next heir or was it his choice?
I know Esme has said her interest in Bella was because she wanted a daughter or is there more to it?
Wonderful story.

First of all - thank you for not having him be married to Tanya. I wonder why he was in an arranged marriage when his father had not been.
Oh, what is a tear away child?
While I feel for Jasper, Edward does have a point. The eldest were the ones all the responsibility were thrust upon while the younger sons did not not have nearly as much.
And you mentioned Princess Alice Maud Mary as being new... new how? I mean she can't be a babe if she is meant for Jasper. Is she a distant relative that has come to live with the Queen and her prince? Maybe from the continent?
And Esme is right about Isabella. She is a hard-headed brat. LOL

Poor Edward might have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth but he still has not had an easy life. The expectations placed on him at such a young age, an arranged marriage and then loosing his wife so young would be horrible. Is it any better or worse than what Isabella has gone through? Whose to say since the situations are so completely different and neither of them know a difference. Renee doesn't sound like she will make it much longer. Maybe a combination of being ill and a broken heart? But she is trying to hold on for her children? I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I love this story!

Edward does sound a bit bitter, but not without a cause. And they ARE related to the Queen, oh boy... that's quite the social estanding they have, no wonder Bella blaks at the idea of being treated so informally by Esme.
Can't wait to read more, I'm dying to see what Esme had planned!

I decided to read this story here because of the pictures. Beautiful children. I think Edward's attitude is because most of his life he has been all business. His childhood was business, his marriage was business, his children are business, with all of his life being in answer to obligation. He needs to learn to live in order to be what and who he needs to be for himself and his children. Wonder who could help him figure that out??? :) Loved the chapter.

Okay - I really like the pictures added to the story! Really I am not 5 years old - just love the color and the reminders of what things were during that time period and it is also like visiting a relative - you experience their exsistence in a visual rather than mental picture. This is an awesome feature that TWCS has to share. I will be reading this on TWCS not only for the visuals but ya know...the stuff FF is so pissy about... TWCS is not pissy about!
Enjoying the story and anxious for more.

Ahhh, so Emmett is not a Cullen, and yet she has called him Master Emmett.
And Edward & Jasper are the Cullen sons. I have the feeling Edward will be his upturned-nose self - at least on the outside, as that is how he keeps society at bay.
I wonder, though. Is Jasper married? I assume Edward has children from his dead wife - ugh, Bella will have to go from being a poor caretaker to a rich, society caretaker. I don't know that that is better than her current position.

Well, since Edward lost his wife at least two years ago he should be past the mourning and ready to move on with life. Will he be "love struck" anew? Lets hope so for Bella's sake!

I love this Bella and Esme. Bella is resolute in her lot in life and not bitter, just accepting. Esme is stubborn and will not give up trying to bring Bella into society as her daughter of sorts. I think if Renee could express her feelings on the matter, she would encourage Bella to allow Esme's attentions since no mother wants here daughter to live such a hard and isolated life. As for Edward, he will probably be hard-hearted having lost his wife but he will be enchanted by Bella strength and beauty. Maybe? Guess we will just have to wait and see. Until next time.
Date: 13 Sep 2012 2:49 PM Title: September 13th 1843

Okay, so what is happening with the Cullens that they need to be fixed?
Also, it says she has grandchildren, but from whom? Was Edward married before? Is Emmett married?
And Bella definitely needs a lesson in humility. I think Lady Cullen needs to have a talk with Renee. Renee needs to make sure Bella meets eligable young men... though from the sounds of it, there is only one man Lady Cullen wants her to meet.

Esme has two sons, Emmett and Edward. Edward being the oldest; Emmett already has the family, but you did not mention their ages. Is there a reason? Is Edward away learning skills to increase his family's wealth and stature?
Bella is16, that makes her 12 years older than her little brother, correct?
Due to Bella's station and being the main care taker if the property, I can't imagine she has very many, if any, gentleman callers. She is of the 'coming out' age of that era yet has no interest in seeking the assistance of a young man. Rather odd. Is Esme hoping to change that by introducing Edward?

Another wonderful chapter. Isabella is stubborn, but like you said she has to be to shoulder the responsiblities that she does at her age. Even during that time, running a home, farm, caring for an ailing mother and a 4 year old brother was not that common. Not completely uncommon, but not something that every daughter had to look forward to doing so young. I love the way this is written and how wonderful and caring Carlisle and Esme are. As for what Esme has planned for Edward? Maybe she will try to get him to escort Bella to the dancer? See ya next chapter. I look forward to the update showing up in my inbox.
