As horrible as it sounds I agree that Emmett couldn't of fired James until he did. He had to protect himself and the shop. James could of sued Emmett if he had fired him sooner. Emmett sleeps with Bella without proof of anything happening James could of claimed wrongful termination and it wouldn't of looked good to the courts.
It's nice to see Edward and Bella's relationship growing along with them.
