I see why you might think of this as a filler chapter, but I got more out of it than that. First, there was the big sigh of relief at the ruling by Judge Lucas. Then Charlie's absolute fury at being denied his right to beat his child to death, the miserable bastard! I felt pretty bad for Bella when she found out her mother held her so cheaply. Come on, a plane ticket and and a grand? Charlie really is a cheapskate!! I hate for Bella to start worrying about the criminal trial already, but I suppose it's inevitable. Between the homeschooling and Carlisle's medical care, and all of them keeping a watch over her and the baby, Bella should be okay. Not perfect, but okay, which right now is all we can hope for.

Great chapter. I'm surprised at Renee showing up. I didn't think that she cared enough to make that effort. Can't wait to read what Charlie has to say for himself. Especially since Bella had saved his voicemail messages.
