So yeah.  Edward's utterly bleak past, present and future are simply heart breaking.  The images that stay with me from this brief chapter:  Edward lying on the train track with a wry smile on his face; that little boy peering through the open door as his mother is brutally killed; and finally Edward huddled on the floor staring at the bottle of sleeping pills across the room, "waiting for him" as he resists sleep and the seductive "pull" of the peace that botttle of pills can bring him.
