When is the best time to take advantage or manipulate someone? When they're already at rock bottom. They don't give her time to get her bearings before knocking her down even further. She's 17 and never had to deal with anything remotely like she is now. She's isolated and alone.

This was such an awesome story--and I have to admit the premise freaked me out a bit at first and I avoided reading it...but it kept popping up when I looked for stories to read. wow! just, wow. someone on twitter recommended this story and the only description she gave was "Bella was forced to marry Edward" & I searched for this story on ff.net, thinking it's a romantic com (based on my experiences on fics that I've read w/ the same premise) until another tweet lead me to a blogsite then that blogsite lead me here in TWCS. ONLY to find out by the 1st chapter of this fic that IT IS ANYTHING BUT ROM-COM!
Neverthless not even the hardcoreness & brutality that Bella suffered from those evil, evil men stopped me from reading this. You are a gifted writer and I like that you get to the point of the story as straight and as quickly as you can. Truly, you never disappoint with each chapter. Congratulations on this wonderful fic and to the future book that this fic will spawn.

The beginning of the story was...well, you know. The middle made me angry. So many men in this world still see women as objects, and dismiss their feeling, thoughts and needs. Too many men are abusive. When reading this, it really brought out the subtleties of treating women as 'less than'.
I think most women can recall some times in their lives when they've had experiences that made them feel like something was wrong.
I loved that Bella told Edward to let her go! I was surprised and elated. This is probably the only E/B story where I could have accepted if Bella would have left and never came back.
I would have liked to have known more about the 'Edward, five years later'.
I thought you said something about and Esme outtake. I didn't see it. Did you write one. In my mind, Esme scattered his ashes throughout the gardens so Carlisle would finally contribute some nurturing-in the form of fertilizer.
There are a few points that I wasn't really happy about at first, but I think you worked them quite well. Getting therapy was #1. I read stories where abuse has taken place, and people miraculously overcome them. I commend you for adding that bit. I know the stories I read are fiction, but I personally feel that when it comes to things like abuse, an author should take five minutes and do a little research, and at the very least, suggest that help is there for women. THANK YOU.
Your story was amazingly well written. It had a nice flow, didn't go off on unrelated and unnecessary offshoots. It was smartly written, and I don't believe you cow-towed to people's opinions.
I wished that Charlie and James had not been related to Bella, and that the abuse scenes were less descriptive (I know, I read the warnings, just giving you my wish list).
Please give my Lillie Cullen a big old "Job well done!" for me. 'Cause, really, she's outstanding. I freaking hate punctuation when I'm writing, but when I'm reading, errors scream out at me! (They are really loud, too)

Thank you so much for your review. I love reviews like this because they help me so much learn to grow as a writer - knowing what I did right AND what I did wrong. TPW was my first attempt at writing and was started on a dare by one of my kids. I wanted to see just how dark I could go (thus the beginning). I began getting emails and pm's from readers sharing their own stories of surviving abuse and thanking me for not sugar-coating the truth. I began to delve deeper into the characters and looking at more than just Bella's abuse to show the cycle of abuse and how its passed down by generations. I wanted to show both the victim and the abuser could overcome.
I am working on rewriting the story to an original manuscript which will be published sometime next year. I've learned alot writing this story and the book will not have the graphic beginning. I'll focus more on the psychological aspect of her abuse and skim the sexual abuse. The ending will have more information about the time after Carlisle dies to the wedding. I had already been approached about publishing TPW when I was working on the last few chapters but refused to pull the story before the ending. This 'vague' ending was the compromise for the book.
As for Esme's outtake - I'm still working on it. I should have it ready in a couple of weeks. I focused this summer writing a book that is due out by Nov, so everything else had to be put on the back burner. Now the book is finished, I can get my head back into my ff stories.
I agree 100% with you...Lillie is THE BEST!!!!

This story is just fabulous! I've read it almost non-stop the last few days and loved every moment of it. Your plot is quite unique and adds to the greatness that is this story. I loved seeing Bella begin to grow even under the repression by the males in her life. The ending was perfect and absolutely beautiful. I'm glad that Carlisle, the true villain, got his comeuppance. All of this has been exceptionally well conceived and I want to thank you for creating and sharing such an amazing story.

wow, yeah, thought i might puke there at the begining but glad to see that the monster was vanquished. i liked the line "evil is easier to believe when its ugly" its so very true and not just for this story but for life we don't want to believe that the all american boy next door really beats his high school sweet heart wife when no one looks or that the kindly neighbor is really a peodophile evil is so much simpler if its the scary homeless guy. or better yet if like in the old western the bad guys just wore black hats.
the chapter ended nicely Carlisle deservered far worse he got to be the hero at least to the outside world. But at least he's fertilizer now, or is he? wouldn't he have wanted at least some part of his ashes to be left with renea a sort of heathclif and Catherine HEA in his sick twisted mind?
hopefully edward has heard the saying if you love some one let them go if they don't return they were never yours. She'll come back she just needs to spread her wings.

ok so i've followed the story since it was back on FF and I must say that i became a bit impatient an just decided to come back when i knew you had finished it and i'm quiet happy i waited because honestly i'm about to crawl up a wall if i had to wait to read the next chapter you'd probably find me rocking in a corner going but...but...but...
so i've said before that i hate this Carlisle because he is one of my favorites from the books, but other than name and occupation there isn't anything that makes the two men the same so i'm over that one and so hoping that there is an olander flower or a hemlock tree that esme has so that she can poison the lot of them!
and edward he could just tell her that they need to pretend you know like the other boys did. surely that would work. of course when he finds out that carlisle wants to "share" bella with him then he'll be the one committing murder. of course esme would probably say that she did it.
think i'm gonna shut up now and just read the rest.

The reason Esme kept it a secret is because she didn't want Bella to just settle and look for a way to deal with life. She wanted her to fight for the right kind of life with Edward to save Bella and Edward. She sees Bella giving up now and wants to give her a coping mechanism if things don't work out

When Demetri pushed/punched Carlisle, he lost his balance stumbling back into the broken table laying on the floor behind him. He fell and a piece of wood that was sticking up stabbed him in the neck killing him. Lame I know, but I didn't feel confident at the time writing a whole fight to death scene. I've gotten a little better since then with a new novel I'm writing.
Yes, TPW is going to be published after the first of the year with everything Twilight removed. there will be some changes to the story (the graphic beginning) and there will be new material included. It may be broken into 2 books just because of its size. I'll know more as I work on it.
Right now I'm working on an all original novel that's almost complete and due to be published later this year. You can read the first 2 chapters right here. I'd love to know what you think.

Yes I still plan on doing Esme's outtake. it's halfway written now, I just need to finish it. I've been working on an original project that is almost finished! I have the first 2 chapters posted here to check out if you like. It's going to be published later this year.

I can honestly say... Thank you, for allowing not only myself, but many other people read this story. It is inspiring in many ways, while the plot itself is quite out-of-the-ordinary, it is very worth the effort to finish. It shows that love can triumph over the bad (putting it lightly, of course ;p), everytime. I have to admit that I found myself wanting to click out, due to the content itself, but I pushed through and I am darn happy I did. Thank you again. :D
