I have wondered all thru this story why his first wife died from a cancer that is curable. I know that the amish see drs, and go to hospitals for treatments. I live in southern Michigan and we h as very plenty of amish people come to our town for the drs and, I've seen them at hospital too. They also come to the farmers market the hospital has every week during the warmer months.

Not everyone has the same experience with cancer. They waited for months before going to the doctor because they assumed she was pregnant. Then there is the fact that it would be their choice on how they decided to deal with the situation and what treatment route they/Maggie decided on.
