Detective DH obviously doesn't know anything about the current case he is working if he thinks Edward is still trying to avenge his brother's death.
Charlie must have a lot of pull with the Port Angeles police department. Otherwise Edward would be in a bit of trouble. Glad they back their own.

It sounds as if the time apart may be difficult for them but it will allow Edward to finish what he needs to do to put the past behind him.
