Eve Donnelly is a widowed novelist who lives in seclusion in a cabin in the Ozark Mountains. Her claim to fame is the Dusk Trilogy, which she wrote after seeing a young actor, Emmett McCarty, in a daytime soap opera. She wanted to present him with a project that would showcase his talent. Due to special circumstances, Eve remains anonymous, using a pen name. She becomes obsessed with her main character, Elliott Craven. Then she meets Emmett at a convention.
