It was tough to go through all that again, especially knowing some of what was coming in the future! See you next time!

Even Satan himself ould be afraid to have Joham in Hell, just from fear of competition!  Reading this chapter and remembering kind of made me half sick! I was never so glad as when that evil bastard was destroyed. Not that it brought back any of Aro and Marcus's loved ones, but it helped a little!

Sounds to me as if Joham was the Volturi's Trojan Horse! How not surprising that it would be Caius who would bring their downfall into their midst! This portion of Aro's tale was pretty peaceful and even happy, for the most part. How do I know it won't stay that way? Never seems to, with this group!

Author's Response:

I forgot I brought this bit over here.  I hate having unfinished work lying around, but when I picked this up to finish it, I couldn't remember exactly where I was going.  I like the idea of Aro being a normal, somewhat decent human man, who grew corrupt over the years.  Joham was a monster, but it is interesting to note, he was a distant monster, who only became truly horrible when he was pushed.

I'm so embarassed to realize I somehow missed favoriting this story! I read and reviewed the first chapter and then lost track!  In looking up Dragons At Twilight, I discovered my mistake. I'm calling it that, since I have read or am reading all your other stories! This second chapter is a real eye-opener, with Aro's dalliance with Jane and his Sulpicia's depravity concerning the girl and her brother!(I always thought there was something going on with those two!) This narrative, from Aro is just spell-binding!

Author's Response:

It tickles me to know someone wants to read all my stuff.  I've learned that you can't please everyone, though you can please many people some of the time.  I've had some wonderful readers who loved one or another story I wrote.  But most come for a favorite pairing, or a favorite genre, and it's not really the writing that gets them.  I have a handful of favorite authors, and I'll read pretty much anything they write, but even these jewels have written a few I passed on.  Some things just don't grab me, no matter how much I love and trust the writer.  We bring our own experiences and prejudices to a story, and sometimes a story just doesn't resonate the same way.  This is one of those lessons I had to learn along the way.

So, don't feel as if you owe me anything--even though I appreciate your loyalty.  Don't ever feel obligated to read my offerings, just because you said you would.  If the story captures you, I'm thrilled.  If it doesn't, I understand.

I don't know why my mind is fascinated with Aro; he's everything bad about vampires.   A power hungry serial killer who can read your mind would be a true horror.  But he's so stinking complicated.  It's hard to take him at face value; he's got so much going on in his head.  I really would have loved to see him cast as a younger, prettier man.

Yoham got off way too easily.   Maybe I feel a smidge sorry for Aro while Yoham was controlling him, but After he was dead, all the evil is on Aro.

Author's Response:

Joham considered himself at war with the Volturi.  In his mind, that excused him from all his crimes.  Aro is a littel sympathetic, but he's also responsible for his own actions.  He's concerned about following in Joham's footsteps, but he also doesn't see what's wrong with a lot of his own actions.  He was created at a time when Slavery was legal and accepted, and women were little more than property.  A boy was a man at thirteen, and fathers didn't nurture their children, but schooled, taught and disciplined them.  Adultery was another story though, like stealing another man's property, there were serious consequences for that.

I want to feel sorry for Aro but I just cant.

Author's Response:

Aro has his issues.  I finally realized he's not sympathetic.  But he is very complicated and interesting, and I had fun writing him.  Thanks for reading.

Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.   Find it funny how he didn't want to sully his marriage for Jane, but tried to get Heidi to break the bonds so he could have alice.   Hypocracy at its finest.

Great chapter

Author's Response:

Aro is a good example of what happens with absolute power.  He started off as a decent human being, but his power means no one questions his motives.  He's faithful to his marriage only when it's convenient.  He had Chelsea try to break up Jasper and Alice, and he planned to divorce, or more likely murder, his wife if it was successful.  He would have married Alice, mostly because marriages in his era had teeth.

There have always been two schools of thought on who killed Didyme, Aro or the Romanians. This peek into Aro 's past was very interesting reading. He's a fascinating, complicated character!

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading my little outtake.  I've got more to add, but I've got to be careful not to spoil CFH.  Who killed Didyme wasn't covered in the books but I guess on Meyer's website she said Aro killed her so she and Marcus wouldn't leave.  I'm writing it my way.  Since I didn't read the website, then it doesn't exist, right?  All's fair in fan fiction.  I like mine better.

"But behind his machinations, there are reasons for everything he does."  That is but an understatement.

As far as Didyme, its on Steph Meyer's website: http://stepheniemeyer.com/bd_faq.html

What happened to Marcus's wife?

Once upon a time, a fairly young vampire (he had only been a vampire for a decade and a half) named Aro changed his young sister Didyme, who had just reached adulthood, into a vampire in order to add her to his growing coven. Aro always wanted power, and because he himself had a potent mind-reading gift, he hoped his biological sister would also be gifted in a way that would help him rise in the vampire world. It turned out that Didyme did have a gift; she carried with her an aura of happiness that affected everyone who came near her. Though it wasn't exactly what he had hoped for, Aro pondered the best ways he could use this gift. Meanwhile, Aro's most trusted partner, Marcus, fell in love with Didyme. This was not unusual; given the way she made people feel, lots of people fell in love with Didyme. The difference was that this time, Didyme fell in love herself. The two of them were tremendously happy. So happy, in fact that, after a while, they no longer cared that much about Aro's plans for domination. After a few centuries, Didyme and Marcus discussed going their own way. Of course, Aro was well aware of their intentions. He was not happy about it, but he pretended to give his blessing. Then he waited for an opportunity to act, and when he knew he would never be found out, he murdered his sister. After all, Marcus's gift was much more useful to him than hers had been. This is not to say that Aro did not truly love his sister; it's just that a key part of his personality is the ability to destroy even what he loves in order to further his ambitions. Marcus never found out that Aro was responsible for Didyme's death. He became an empty man. Aro used Chelsea's gift to keep Marcus loyal to the Volturi, though not even Chelsea's gift could make Marcus show any enthusiasm for it.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the response.  I was afraid that since the first chapter came with the error, that it would be invisible to evveryone.  I had suspected this history was in an unpublished form, so thanks for letting me know.  I've forgotten a lot of details that were in the books, so now I don't feel so bad, since this was material for those who went looking for answers.  I like to make up my own.

I've never looked at Meyer's website.  In this case, I'm going to rewrite history, since it's not in the actual books.  If she's writing about the characters, and the stories don't appear in books, it almost sounds like she's writing fan fiction for her own series.  (grin)  I guess I can be glad she never went as far as J R R Tolkein in fleshing out her universe post series.

I marked this non-canon, so I don't think it breaks any rules.  I've always been good at stepping on toes, but that comes from not being head over heels in love with Twilight.  I guess Meyer and I would have to disagree on how useful Didyme would be next to Marcus.  Considering their set up in Volterra, making people happy would be a valuable gift.  A man who could kill his own sister for power is a bit colder than the one I envisioned.
